1. About This App

Citizen Guide is an unofficial, free study tool to help people prepare for the Canadian citizenship test. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Government of Canada.

2. Information We Collect

We only collect information when you choose to sign in with Google. If you use the app without signing in, no personal data is collected or stored on our servers.

When you sign in, we receive from Google:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your profile photo URL
  • A unique Google account identifier

We also store your study progress in our database:

  • Which sections you have read
  • Quiz scores and answers
  • Flashcard activity
  • Your citizenship test date (if you set one)
  • Your notification preference

3. How We Use Your Information

Your data is used solely to save and restore your study progress across devices. We do not sell, share, or use your data for advertising, analytics, or any purpose other than providing the app's core functionality.

4. Cookies and Sessions

We use a secure, HTTP-only session cookie to keep you signed in. This cookie contains no personal information — only an encrypted session token. It expires when you sign out or clear your browser data.

5. Third-Party Services

  • Google Sign-In — used for authentication. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
  • YouTube (youtube-nocookie.com) — study sections embed YouTube videos using the privacy-enhanced mode. YouTube may still set cookies. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

6. Data Retention

Your progress data is kept as long as you have an account. You can delete all your data at any time from the Settings page.

7. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under applicable privacy laws (including Canada's PIPEDA and the EU's GDPR) to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Withdraw consent at any time

To exercise these rights, use the account deletion option in Settings or contact us at the email below.

8. Children's Privacy

This app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect any changes. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
