O Canada was originally composed in 1880 by Calixa LavallΓ©e with French lyrics by Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier. An English version was written in 1908 by Robert Stanley Weir. It was officially proclaimed Canada's national anthem on July 1, 1980.
